In honor of all the smart, beautiful ladies out there that love extreme music, I was happy to bring you “HELLA HAWTIE OF THE WEEK!” Historically most metal, punk, hard rock shows attract the dudes, but I know so many cool chickas that love to be there too! I am showcasing and finding out what’s on the minds of these mamacitas I know and love right here! Going forward it will be "HELLA HAWTIE OF THE MONTH!". If you know some exceptionally brilliant ones please send them my way ;o)

Lisa Stevenson-Vigil aka NYE HAWTIE!
1. What are your top three favorite bands and why?
Social Distortion for that gravelly voice & old punk energy. Slayer for knowing how to deliver a tough rhythm on every album. Led Zeppelin for just being perfect (except for that stupid Hot Dog song).
2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
I was in like 7th grade. I won tickets on KRQR for UB40 & Midnight Oil at The Greek Theatre. Lots of pot smoke.
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
I'm loving the old local bands from The Omni & Stone days coming back on the scene: Forbidden, Fungo Mungo, DA to name a few. Even some with different lineups, it's nice to hear the old tunes & watch them promote new stuff, too. Oh, & it's fun watching pimply teenagers reviving the scene, too especially when they're wearing "retro" concert t-shirts I attended.
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
I'm a huge Clutch fan & they're playing with the almighty Motorhead in Feb. It'll be a much better show than seeing them with BLS this past month. The next night is Social D at the same venue. I'm going to just spend the night at The Warfield.
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?
Hmmmmm, I'd ask Jimi Hendrix "Your music, how did you know?"

1. What are your top three favorite bands and why?
Conflict- I am in awe of the energy this band has for spreading their message to the masses about what the AFL stands for, animal cruelty and sticking to your beliefs and what is right. Their music is brutal, truthful and raw, their shows make it horrendous to watch them live but its a reality. I have a very strong respect for this band
Slayer- seriously, do I have to put a reason why here??
Minor Threat- This band started my whole love affair for punk music. They opened many music genre doors for me. I'm not so much into the straight edge scene but the message Ian McKaye sings are strong and positive, it crosses any generation
2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
Iron Maiden Seventh Son tour.....it was awesome!
Actually, it was Jackson Browne, but Iron Maiden sounds so much more impressive. They were my 2nd live band I saw. Does that count??
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
I am so lucky that I live in the bay area. We have probably some of the best local scene anywhere with such a wide variety of talent I love the local music scene. I love seeing all the new bands who are just starting out, all the energy and pride they have in their music. My musical taste is pretty diverse so i go to a lot of amazing local shows.
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
Grinderman, X, 45 grave....my weekends are pretty much booked the rest of the year to see bands.
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?
ME at any stage in my life and give myself a good shaking!!!
Ok, ok, if i have to choose I'd have to say Magdalene from biblical times and ask here what it was like to date Jesus....is that too blasphemous???
NOOOOOO!!! It's not too blasphemous! I love it! I met Mercy at Suicidal Tendencies November 30, 2007 at The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma. I have been enthralled with her ever since...And one of her favorite Minor Threat songs, for your listening enjoyment...FILLER

Damn that’s hard cus I have a lot of favorite bands. If I could do it in category it be easier. Ok well definitely Mayhem is one of my favorites. Venom is another one of my favorites. Grew up on The Stones, Kiss, Sabbath, Rainbow, Maiden, Priest, and Crue, those were my top favorites as a kid. Related a lot to Crue and Rainbow songs. Metal music in general made me feel invincible especially the bands I loved. Once I discovered Slayer then my top favorites changed (well not to slayer) to Possessed, Exodus, Venom, Mayhem, Sepultura and Dismember. After hearin that music I pretty much figure out who I was as a person, it made me realize I was different.

1. What are your top three favorite bands and why?
Always a tough question, but I think I’ve narrowed it down to:
-Virgin Steele, the most epic band in the world. They have awesome riffs, killer vocals, and write extremely detailed concept albums about subjects like Greek and Christian mythology. Their first few albums were total hair metal, and they also recorded a thrash metal album under the name Exorcist. So they’re versatile enough to cover three of my favorite genres of music– glorious power metal with historical themes, raging neck-wrecking thrash, and cock rock songs about banging underage girls. What could be better?
-Iron Maiden. Heavy metal wouldn’t exist the way it does today without them. Maiden has been one of my favorite bands ever since I started listening to metal, and theirs was the first concert I ever saw. They write incredibly catchy riffs that still manage to be heavy as hell. And it always makes me laugh when outsiders think of heavy metal as “stupid” music when Iron Maiden’s biggest hit is about the conquest of Native Americans, and they write lyrics about history, war, and famous novels and epic poems that many of us had to read for English classes. I’d love to see anything that intellectual come out of any of that autotuned Lady Gaga bullshit that people are calling music these days.
-King Diamond. Did I mention how much I love concept albums? Well nobody writes them quite like the King. If anyone else tried to imitate his falsettos or write an album about Grandma and her Satanic tea parties, it would be laughable. But King Diamond commits 100 percent, and when you pair that with killer drumming and dueling guitar riffs, it’s a recipe for pure awesomeness. Here’s to King’s speedy recovery from his recent heart surgery!

2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
Iron Maiden, Dio, and Motorhead at the Chronicle Pavilion (now the Sleeptrain Pavilion in Concord). I was 12 or 13 and it was the first time my parents let me go to a metal show, provided that I went with my older brother and his friends. Still one of the most memorable concerts I’ve been to- and the only time I saw Dio play his solo material, as opposed to with Heaven and Hell, before he passed.
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
I love it. I met my boyfriend and most of closest friends at metal shows. It’s great to see bands who started long before my time continue to rock to this day, and to discover newer bands who are keeping the spirit of metal alive. My only real complaint is that a lot of my favorite bands only ever play in Europe!
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
Motorhead in February! I can’t think of much else coming up besides Accept and Symphony X/Nevermore, but those aren’t until April. I’ll probably hit up some local shows here and there in the meantime.
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?
I’d ask Jesus Christ if he ever really existed, and what he thinks of the current state of Christianity. Of course if he never existed, I’d still have a free question on my hands. So I’d ask Dio what in the hell any of his lyrics are supposed to mean.

1. What are your top three favorite bands and why?
SLAYER – I have been a diehard fan since first hearing them in 1985. The intensity of their music is like a drug to me. It's orgasmic & psychotic yet therapeutic in so many ways....and as far as live performances go, based on the 11 times I've seen them, Slayer always delivers!!!
PANTERA – Like Crystal said: Dimebag-goosebumps...what else is there to say? (Oh except, Phil Anselmo has the one of the darkest, sexiest voices in metal!!! ;)
PANTERA – Like Crystal said: Dimebag-goosebumps...what else is there to say? (Oh except, Phil Anselmo has the one of the darkest, sexiest voices in metal!!! ;)
DIMMU BORGIR – These black metal pirates are just amazing to me!
2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
Well not my first, but definitely the most memorable was Megadeth & Exciter @ The Stone in '84. I got the chance to meet Mustaine as well as James Hetfield but the best part was hanging out and chatting with the late great Cliff Burton. What an amazingly cool cat he was. Watching his demeanor as others approached him was inspiring to me.
Just a sampling of some of the shows you can find her at! |
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
I too feel very fortunate to have been living in Frisco in the 80's among the booming metal scene and I feel just as fortunate today to still be involved and see many of the same bands staying loyal to their roots and thrashing hard as ever!
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
Nothing planned until after the new year and then, of course, Death Angel!!!!
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?
I would really like to meet Jonathan Davis. He fascinates me. Not sure what I would ask him, I just wanna shoot the shit with him and get inside his psyche...
Simone with our friend Dave Romero who we miss so much. |
Simone Reeves aka WILD FLOWER!
1. What are your top three favorite bands and why?
AC/DC..many would say 'the epitome' of Rock n' Roll. Crank it up to 11!
DEF LEPPARD...got hooked on them INSTANTLY, and not just for their good looks! Am beyond happy they are still around after over 3 decades. So many great memories through-out life run through my mind when hearing them. I had even wanted to do a Def Leppard all girl tribute band.
ROLLING STONES...'If you start me up, If you start me up I'll never stop'...and thank goodness they haven't. Long live Rock n' Roll!!
2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
One from back in the day that has always stuck out in my mind: Voivod, Soundgarden, and Prong at The Stone 2/19/90 (?) with members of Metallica in attendance. Voivod was so different...I loved the different elements that were brought in to their music. Prong was raging! Soundgarden, Chris was in his glory with no shirt on, amazing eyes, and that long beautiful hair, all the girls would just die over him, but what came out of him...haunting and intense. Very memorable, unique voice.Bono, Neil Young.
My first 'arena' type show...The Moody Blues!
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
It is very strong to this day! I love that I come from one of the biggest music capitals on the planet. There is so much history within the bay area, especially, San Francisco. The diversity, the comradery, the support, that you can find a little bit of anything you want there, any day of the week. I do what I can to support it all, whether it be helping to promo or just by attending, wherever I go. The teachings should NEVER leave schools either. I love that there are even tribute bands that can tide you over until the real thing comes along...a great way to bring friends together, keep up your chops, and just have a good time. I love that a lot of bands I grew up with are still soldiering on to this day..and watching those just starting out, that you feel you grow with. That's what it's all about...living the dream, sharing it with others, inspiring others. Rock and Roll will never die...cliche, but true. It's been a great ride so far. :)
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
Adler's Appetite, Glam Star, The Dreaming, Bon Jovi...hopefully The Black Crowes, and Andrea Bocelli...that man can bring me to tears with his voice. DEATH ANGEL in February!
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?
Really, anyone that has made it doing what they love in life and then giving back. How do they keep going, even in the toughest times, what has and does inspire them? I would love to be in the position to be able to do that myself. I am inspired by those who are most upbeat, down to earth, honest, and selfless. Off the top: Paul McCartney, Bono, Neil Young.

2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
the first big concert i saw was probably a day on the green…around 1981, it was heart, pat travers, ozzy osbourne and a local band 415. i remember being so amazed at all the people there at once. i had to get on someone’s shoulders to see anything...me being a "short stack" and all…i actually think one of my friend’s kirk has a photo of me this day on someones shoulder during heart. i went with friends we smuggled jack daniels in ziplock baggie taped to our chests...

2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
My first concert in an arena was Motley Crue (shout at the devil tour) and at a small club (L'amours) was Ramones.
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
Hmm thoughts on the music scene well I can definitely say the music scene over here sucks now compared to Europe. U don’t see a lot of people at shows anymore not like back in the day, at least over here in New York. Bay area scene was definitely the place to be though, (still is). The kids in Europe are die hard and there are so many cool festivals there. We need to have more festivals here in the States. I think if a bunch of old skool bands got together and put on a huge festival here that would be killer!!!! The only festival we got is Deathfest and that’s in Maryland.
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?Next show I'm going to is Danzig and my man Jeff in Buffalo. (POSSESSED \m/)
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?

Leah Storkson aka BIRTHDAY METAL QUEEN!
1. What are your top three favorite bands and why?
Alice In Chains, Metallica, and U2. They are all so very different and have brought me hours of listening enjoyment.
I have great respect for each of the bands in different ways.
2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
Big stadium first show: Scorpions, Girlschool, Iron Maiden. Cow Palace.. 1984?? Not sure.
Small club first show: Chumbi.. a theatrical band
that played in costume at the Old Waldorf.
3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
I'm glad Metal is making a comeback out here and in general. I'm So damn glad! I still think some of the promoters are a bit corrupt though. That makes me angry. I hear stories and it pisses me the heck off!
4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
Hmm. I rarely go out and when I do they are really special nights for me. I know this is very far down the road but D.R.I are playing in January and I am planning on going to that for sure.
(This show is also on the KILLER SHOWS list too: 1/14 D.R.I. at Slim's, San Francisco)
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?
Steven Tyler. I have always idolized that man, he is way top sexy in my book, still at 60 + years or whatever he is now. I would ask him how it was back in the late 60's playing shows, how it felt, crazy stories on the road etc..
HELLA HAWTIE Leah not only goes way way back in the San Francisco Bay Area metal scene but she's an amazing mother of three adorable cuties and the gorgeous wife of the infamous guitarist of My Victim, Will Storkson. You can hear My Victim at: http://www.my-victim.com/
THANK YOU LEAH!!! AND HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!! (Her birthday is 11/16, everybody send her some birthday love)❤

#2-Metallica-Never have let me down all 36 times I have seen them..weather it be the energy from them..or the energy from the crowd..there's just nothing else like seeing these guys live. A very unique experience..EVERY TIME.

Well..up until about a year and a half ago..I had never seen them live...And from that first show on June 13th,2009..HOOK,LINE,AND SINKER!!
WOW! The energy level of these guys is AMAZING..and what makes them #1 is not only their musicianship..but the fact that you can tell they enjoy what they are doing and you are not only watching them play..but you are a part of it..and they make sure you know it..on and off stage..by far..the coolest guys I have ever met:)
I could go onnnnn and onnnn but we have more questions..haha

#2-Metallica-Never have let me down all 36 times I have seen them..weather it be the energy from them..or the energy from the crowd..there's just nothing else like seeing these guys live. A very unique experience..EVERY TIME.
#1-Death Angel-
Well..up until about a year and a half ago..I had never seen them live...And from that first show on June 13th,2009..HOOK,LINE,AND SINKER!!
2. What is the first concert you remember attending?
The first concert-was Earth,Wind and Fire..what year..???
I was like 9 or something..AMAZING show..it was in Oakland.
First concert I attended that was actually MY decision..Van Halen Diver Down tour:) I think I was 12 for that one. I still have the shirt from that show!

3. What are your thoughts on the music scene?
The music scene-I love the music scene..I love that there are still bands out like DA, Metallica, Exodus and Forbidden that kick ass today just as much if not more than they did 20-something years ago!!
Keeps me feeling like a teenager!
ok..maybe a 20 year old..

4. What is the next show or few shows you plan on attending?
Next few shows-Misfits in November, Sfarzo christmas party in Dec, Primus NYE, DRI in Jan, and in Feb (my birthday month)..Death Angel!! 2 times even :)
5. If you could meet anyone and ask a question, who would it be and what would you ask?
This one is hard for me, because I have been very fortunate to meet almost all of my favorite people, never asked them any questions because I nerd out..haha..but all the same, if I could meet someone..it would be Cliff Burton..and I'd ask him how the music scene on the other side is:)~
